Arriving at the Pierpoint Morgan
Today we actually added to our corpus of Aldine and French Bible samples with kind permission from the Pierpoint Morgan Library staff. A really big thanks to Maria Fredericks, Drue Heinz Book Conservator who also hosted our event.

Whilst Maria showed us around the public spaces we bumped into a local school teacher who was carrying a roll of parchment skin under his arm. Of course we had to ask why. It turned out that he was teaching the students the construction of medieval manuscripts as part of the education programme at the Pierpoint Morgan. Added to the interesting coincidence, the teacher himself first became interested in pigments following a course he had in Italy with Cheryl Porter on the Montefiascone Conservation Project http://monteproject.co.uk/en/

We were joined by colleagues from Princeton University, New York Public Library, Columbia University and the City University of New York among others. Following our the talk we demonstrated the sampling technique. Everyone was keen to get ‘rubbing’ on their collections when the could see how easy it was.
Following such an enjoyable and productive day we all went for drinks in the cafe and were entertained by live classical music.
